Description:
A friend recommended me to Princess Yasmin Aga Khan as a designer. She just purchased an apartment in Manhattan. We hit it off right away. Yasmin inherited many of her father’s belongings, some of which the French government considered national treasures. I remember waiting patiently for key pieces to be released and finish the apartment. Working with Yasmin was a lot of fun. A succession of celebrities passed through the apartment while I was designing it. One day I found Michael York sitting on the sofa with the beautiful Marissa Berenson right before their "Cabaret" success with Liza Minelli. I met Victoria Tennent at the apartment who became a client. One Monday, Yasi called in a panic. The guest room window treatments must be in place for privacy by Thursday that week. I managed it by a hair. It turns out that Margaret Trudeau, wife of the Canadian Prime Minister was hiding out in Yasi's guest room. The world media was looking for her. Friday a mob of Paparazzi greeted me at the front door. When I entered the apartment, Yasi announced that I was to sneak Margaret out before the end of the day through the service door. I was unfortunately or fortunately successful depending on how you look at it. If I had failed, I would have been plastered all over every news outlet in the world as Margaret Trudeau's accomplice. Probably not a bad thing for a budding designer. Yasi was a gracious hostess and very kind to everyone she knew.
