Samuel Botero Associates was established in New York City twenty five years ago. I am committed to delivering interior design concepts that are timeless yet innovative. The first thing you may notice when you view this portfolio is the variety of styles represented. I have been told by some that not having a recognizable look may be a weakness in marketing my services. I, however, think of this as strength and a benefit to my client. My approach with developing a design concept for a client is multi-pronged. First, there is the space. All raw interiors have a character or nature. This is a fact that one must consider before appropriate modifications can take place. Second, and most important, is the client. I develop the design vocabulary for each project by listening to the client. I enjoy the process of interpreting the vision of my client through my lens. This makes my work and my life interesting and challenging. I think of myself as a movie director in the sense that I create a vision that is suited to my clients' personalities, fulfills their dreams and wishes, and incorporates their particular needs. As in a movie, I create a team incorporating a multitude of talents and skills and orchestrate each element to blend seamlessly together to achieve our vision. When you look at the following pages, you will note an underlying current. The most modern as well as the most traditional designs have a relationship in the use of color and the judicious inclusion and respect for personal possessions that people accumulate through life. In addition, I enjoy incorporating objects of other times and other cultures.

As we move through the project, we introduce our clients to concepts they might not have considered and, in the process, teach them how to look at their homes in a new way. We like to feel that at the end of each project our clients have expanded their comfort zone and have a better understanding of what makes their interiors special. Though I graduated from Pratt as a modernist, I soon realized the limitations of working within a particular school of design. The world is too rich a source of inspiration and ideas. I have chosen to embrace rather than exclude. The signature of Samuel Botero Associates is color. We believe it is a vital element in all interiors and that it plays an important part in everything we do. The sophisticated color palettes we create are the underlying element that allows us to combine different periods, styles and techniques to achieve very personalized interiors. Situated in Manhattan, my office provides a full range of design, space planning and consultation services. Our capabilities range from full spatial planning to customized furniture, lighting, and accessories. We will also be happy to advise a client on selection of properties to purchase.
